Home Remedies to Treat Gingivitis – Gingivitis is a type of periodontal disease that causes inflammation in the gums and tissues surrounding the teeth. It is very difficult to diagnose in its first stage to the point that a person may be suffering from gingivitis without knowing it for a long time.

Although plaque is the leading cause of gingivitis and other health problems such as diabetes, HIV, pregnancy, menstruation, puberty, menopause and cancer, it can also lead to the spread of gingivitis. As there is no pain associated with gingivitis, there are some symptoms that you can observe such as redness and swelling of the gums, bleeding of the gums, bad breath, displacement of the teeth among others. Oral hygiene is very important to prevent gingivitis, but there are many home remedies that you can try to treat it in its infancy.
Home remedies for gingivitis
- Saline solution. Dissolve about ½ teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water, swish for half a second and then spit out the solution. Do this procedure several times in a day, especially after meals.
- Honey. After brushing your teeth in the morning, rub a little honey on the infected gums.
- Compresses with tea bags. After soaking a tea bag in water for a few minutes, let it cool and place it in the infected area for 5 to 6 minutes.
- Salt and lemon. Mix ½ teaspoon of salt in a cup and the juice of 1 lemon to make a paste. Apply the paste on the teeth and let it act for a few minutes. Rinse your mouth by gargling with warm water.
- Cranberry juice. Drink 4 glasses of cranberry juice without sugar every day, this will keep bacteria away from your teeth.
- Sodium bicarbonate. Prepare a paste by mixing baking soda with a few drops of warm water and use it to brush your teeth, this will eliminate the acids that cause gum disease.
- Sesame and coconut oil To eliminate the loss of blood due to bleeding gums, you only have to massage the gums with sesame or coconut oil before brushing your teeth. Perform this operation twice a day.
- Clove oil Massage your gums with clove oil to reduce inflammation of the gums.
- Raw vegetables. Eat 3-4 raw vegetables every day to clean the teeth and restore blood flow.
- Echinacea extract Add 1 ½ teaspoon of echinacea extract to a glass of hot water and use it as a mouthwash. Echinacea helps reduce inflammation and, at the same time, strengthens immunity.
- Rub the gums. With the tips of your fingers, rub your gums every morning before brushing your teeth. This movement helps the blood circulate in the gums and therefore prevents the onset of any oral disease.
- Vitamin C. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C or tell the pharmacist to suggest some vitamin C supplements.
- Mustard oil Mix a pinch of salt in 1 tablespoon of mustard oil and apply it to the gums in a circular motion for 3 to 4 minutes. Then, rinse with warm water. Perform this procedure 2 times a day until the inflammation is reduced.
- Cayenne powder Sprinkle some cayenne powder on your toothpaste every time you brush your teeth. This will help prevent periodontal disease and will also kill all the microorganisms in the mouth.
- Organic crispy food . Eat many organic crunchy foods as they clean the enamel from your teeth.
- Foods rich in fiber. Eat lots of whole grains, fruits and vegetables rich in fiber. These foods not only improve your immunity but also help fight bacteria in the mouth.
- Hydrogen peroxide . Mix equal parts of potable water and oxygenated water so that you can then swish. Remember that you should not swallow this solution. Perform this operation 4 or 5 times in a week.
- Alum. Dissolve alum powder in 1 glass of drinking water and use it to rinse your mouth at least 3 times in a day. This effectively reduces inflammation of the gums.
- Calcium. Calcium strengthens bones and teeth. Make sure you eat plenty of calcium foods in your daily diet.
- The skin of the guava has a high content of vitamin C. Put to roast a ripe guava and sprinkle a little salt. Add a few drops of lemon juice and eat it. Alternatively, you can also chew guava leaves to reduce swelling.
- Lemon juice is another good source of vitamin C . Take a glass of warm water and squeeze a lemon. Use this solution as a mouthwash after brushing.

Herbal remedies for gingivitis
- Kava root powder and myrrh powder. Mix equal parts of kava root powder and myrrh powder, 5 drops of any essential oil and 1 teaspoon of white oak bark to form a paste. Use this paste to brush your teeth every day.
- Tea tree oil. Tea tree oil works as an antibiotic and antiseptic agent. Apply a few drops of tea tree oil to your gums and rub in circular movements.
- Catechu The catechu has the ability to stop bleeding. Wash your hands and then apply the paste of this herb to the gums evenly. Keep the pasta for 2 minutes and then rinse with hot drinking water.
- Aloe vera. Aloe vera is an excellent remedy that you can use to cure gingivitis since it reduces inflammation of the gums.
- Apply aloe vera cream on the affected area for a few minutes and then rinse it with water.
- Remove the gel from an aloe vera leaf and apply it directly on the affected area. Wash the gel with drinking water.
- Mix the aloe vera cream with a cup of warm water and swish.
- Mint leaves. Soak some mint leaves in water for about 10 to 15 minutes. Strain the leaves and use the liquid as a mouthwash.
- Sage powder . Add 1 tablespoon of sage powder to a cup of water and let it boil. Let the liquid cool and then add a pinch of salt. Drink this solution every day after brushing your teeth to calm the inflammation of the gums.
- 7 . Herbal powder . Combine ¾ teaspoon of peppermint powder, 2 teaspoons of white oak powder and 1/8 teaspoon of clove powder. Massage the gums with this powder every day.

- Brush without haste. You should brush for two minutes in the morning when you get up and at night before going to bed.
- Always use a tongue cleaner after brushing.
- Use dental floss to remove any bacteria that may have remained in your mouth.
- Listerine mouthwash is ideal for removing tiny bacteria present in the mouth.
- Visit the dentist regularly.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Eat foods rich in vitamin E and C.
